Enterotoxin-producing Escherichia coli O169:H41, United States

چکیده
From 1996 to 2003, 16 outbreaks of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) infections in the United States and on cruise ships were confirmed. E. coli serotype O169:H41 was identified in 10 outbreaks and was the only serotype in 6. This serotype was identified in 1 of 21 confirmed ETEC outbreaks before 1996.

pEntYN10 a plasmid of Escherichia coli O169:H41 associated with adherence and toxin production
In this issue of Virulence, Ban E et al. described the complete sequence of the pEntYN10 plasmid of Escherichia coli O169:H41. The plasmid has 182 coding sequences (CDs); among the identified CDs, some were identified as colonization factors (CFs), one was an enterotoxin and others were insertion sequences (IS). In this editorial, the main findings, as well as the epidemiological significance a...

To the Editor: Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) cause diarrhea by producing either a heatlabile enterotoxin, a heat-stable enterotoxin (ST), or both. Consequently, ETEC can be identified either by detecting the enterotoxin in the culture fluid by immunologic assays or by detecting enterotoxin-coding genes with DNA probes or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification. For many clinical...
متن کاملEnterotoxigenic Escherichia Coli O169:hut from a Diarrheal Patient: Phylogenetic Group and Antimicrobial Susceptibility.
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is one of the most common pathogenic E. coli pathotypes causing diarrhea in children worldwide. Its enterotoxins, LT and ST, including colonization factors mainly are responsible for human pathogenesis. From 239 rectal swabs of diarrheal patients at Hat Yai and Pattani Hospitals during August 2013 and May 2014, five isolates from only a single E. coli sam...
متن کاملSecretory IgA-mediated protection against V. cholerae and heat-labile enterotoxin-producing enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli by rice-based vaccine.
Cholera and enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) are among the most common causes of acute infantile gastroenteritis globally. We previously developed a rice-based vaccine that expressed cholera toxin B subunit (MucoRice-CTB) and had the advantages of being cold chain-free and providing protection against cholera toxin (CT)-induced diarrhea. To advance the development of MucoRice-CTB for hum...
متن کاملEnterotoxin-producing Escherichia coli and diarrheal disease in adult travelers: a prospective study.
Twenty-eight United States adult travelers to developing countries participated in a prospective study designed to determine whether there was an association between diarrheal illness and, the acquisition of strains of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli. Stool specimens were collected and stored in transport media before, during, and after travel and at the onset of any diarrheal illness. From e...
